Reports and Statistics

Use this section of the Control Panel to obtain informtion about the visitors of your site as well as information for your monthly (or anual) hosting dues. Information about overages (if you used more traffic or disk space than your hosting plan includes) will also be displayed here.

Web Server Log Files

Each time someone visits your site the web server adds a corresponding entry to its log files. This entry contains information about which page the visitor requested, when, how big the page was, whether the page was found or not, what kind of browser was used, the IP address of the visitor, etc. This information can be used to generate statistics, to determine which sites have links to you, or to discover resources that are often requested but are missing on your site.

To get to the log files of your server click the "Log files" link in the "Reports" group of your Control Panel. There are two kinds of log files - error logs and access logs. The error logs contain information about requests that could not be processed (for example because a non-existing page was requested). The access logs contain information about successfully processed requests. There is a separate error and access log file for each subdomain you have in your account.

To download the respective log file click the icon in the "Download" column of the logs table. The file will then be downloaded to your local machine via the FTP protocol. Once you have your log files you can view them with your favorite text editor or analyze them with any log analisys tool you like. Please note that we provide such a tool and can analyze your logs and gather statistics for you automatically. See the Statistics chapter later in this manual.

Statistics

Statistics are generated automatically from the information contained in the log files of the web server. But for that to happen you need to enable this feature in the Control Panel. In order to do that click the "Statistics" link in the "Reports" group in CP's main screen. You should see a list of all subdomains in your account. For those subdomains for which statistics generation is enabled you should see a URL you can visit to see the current statistics - usually http://subdomain.domain.com/usage/

We use the Webalizer server log analyzis tool to generate site statistics.

Note

Statistics are not regenerated in real time. They are generated whenever the system is idle but no more than once an hour and not less than once a day. So the statistics are never more than a day old. Also the first time you enable statistics for a subdomain a default statistics page is put in the usage folder. The next time statistics are regenerated for the subdomain that default page automatically disappears. If the default page is not replaced by the actual statistics within 24 hours please contact our support service.

To toggle statistics on and off for a subdomain use the icon in the "Manage" column of the "Website statistics" table.

Tip

If you disable the statistics for a subdomain the existing statistics available from http://subdomain.domain.com/usage/ will not disappear. They will simply no longer be updated. If you wish so you may remove the /home/username/public_html/subdomain/usage folder from disk using the File Manager or your favorite FTP client.

Warning

By default the generated statistics will be accessible to everyone on the Internet as long as they type in the proper URL in their browser. If you don't wish your statistics to be accessible to everyone you can password protect the usage folder for each of your subdomains.
