The "Domain Names" group of the Control Panel will let you manage the domain names that you own and the websites that appear when a visitor attempts to open a domain name in their browser.
Parking a domain name means to point that name to your hosting account. In order to do that you must already own that domain name and it should resolve to the same IP address as your original domain name. For example you purchased a hosting package for the mydomain.com domain name. But you also own mydomain.net and wish to point it to the mydomain.com site that we host. You can simply follow these steps:
Set the authoritative name servers for mydomain.net (your secondary domain name) to the same servers as for your mydomain.com (primary) domain name. Looking at this chapter may help.
Click the "Park" link in the "Domain Names" group in the Control Panel
Enter "mydomain.net" in the "Domain:" field of the "Park New Domain Name" form
Click the "OK" button
The "Parked Domain(s)" table shows the currently parked domain names and allows you to remove a parking by clicking the "Remove" icon next to the respective domain name.
If the domain name that is to be parked is configured properly changes you make on this page should take effect immediately (actually within a few minutes depending on the server load). But be advised that changes to the authoritative name servers for a domain name usually take about 48 hours to take effect so be not alarmed if a parked domain doesn't open your site soon after you've reconfigured its name servers. If you're still experiencing problems two days after you changed those name servers please contact our support service.
![]() | For advanced users with Apache administration experience: parking a domain name will add the following aliases in the virtual host for your www subdomain:
|
Subdomains are separate sections of your website deployed in separate folders on the server's disk. Each subdomain has its own content. By default a single subdomain is created in your hosting account upon sign up - the www subdomain which you can access by opening http://www.yourdomain.com and http://yourdomain.com is an alias for your www subdomain. The system will not allow you to remove this subdomain.
You can create additional subdomains by clicking the "Subdomain" link in the "Domain Names" group in your Control Panel. Simply input a subdomain name, e.g. 'download' in the "Subdomain:" field of the "Create New Subdomain" form and click "OK". The subdomain will be created immediately (or within a few minutes depending on the server load) and will be listed in the "Existing Subdomain(s)" table. This table displays the subdomains in your account, the webroot for each subdomain and the status of the FrontPage Extensions (enabled or disabled).
You can use the "Remove" icon in the "Existing Subdomain(s)" table to remove a subdomain.
![]() | This will remove the entire webroot folder erasing any content you have uploaded in the respective subdomain. If you remove a subdomain by mistake and you haven't made any backups please contact our support service. |
![]() | For advanced users with Apache administration experience: each subdomain has a separate VirtualHost in the Apache configuration. |
